ABOUT AFU
Supporting students with learning differences through awareness, inclusion, and self-advocacy.
Advocacy for the Unique (AFU) promotes understanding, inclusion, and self-advocacy for students with learning differences. We encourage students to share their experiences and help others understand the strengths and challenges of different ways of learning.
Our annual international essay competition invites middle and high school students to reflect on difference, belonging, and inclusion. Explore the 2024 and 2025 competition archives, or read the guidelines for the Third Annual AFU Essay Competition in 2026.
